100 Kids Who Care is an organization run by students and teachers at Uxbridge Public School devoted to helping the community and the world become better a place. Our program is a spin off of 100 Women Who Care, a local charity foundation run by Andrea Scowcroft, Mimi Brown, Janice Fitger, and their Creative Director Miranda Sheppard.
On October 17th, 2014 we launched the program to our school through an assembly. Mrs. Stokes and Mrs. Jacobson, two teachers at our school who are part of the 100 Women Who Care program spoke to us, as well as our principal Mrs. Galt about helping change the world. Instantly, the program was a success! When the assembly let out, there was a line up in front of the bulletin board where the sign up sheet was. Now more than 170 kids have signed up.
After our assembly the news got around, and now other schools in our area are considering a 100 Kids Who Care program of their own; Joseph Gould P.S., R.H. Cornish P.S., and Goodwood P.S.
Our next meeting will be on in the U.P.S. gym. There, we will have a draw to chose three activity finalists from the nomination box. The three people who put in the final ideas will come to the front and speak on why we should choose to do their activity and how it will help the community, the country, or the world. All members will then vote on an activity/idea, and when the results come out the winner will come and say a bit about how we will do their activity/idea. Then students will leave for class... a note will go home in agendas explaining who the winner was and what will be required of our members. When students show up for our next meeting they will need to bring proof that they completed the activity/assignment.
In this program we have proven that not only can kids change the world, but that kids are willing to do so. Do your part and start a group of your own, or just help the community by yourself.
